Anonymous asked: Did you stop drinking booze completely or did you just slow down with it? What has that been like?
jbizzle329:
The take off.
File under: Reasons you should come visit me in Chicago. Reasons I love my friends. Reasons you shouldn’t eat Lou Malnati’s pizza with a bunch of runners. Reasons I’ll go in the alley behind my house after dark.

Week Nine Already?
Marathon Training: Week 9, Run 1. 5.11 Miles. 49:20. [14 minute warm up, 4 x 800 (90 second recovery interval), 10 minute cool down] I really set myself up for a great run today, what with the combined 15 hours sleep over the past three nights and the lunch of lemon bars. I didn’t push it as hard as could’ve, but I still got some speed work in. I was really looking forward to...

My Sweet, Generous Father
offered to skip the second half of the Bear game and drive me from my parents’ house back to my apartment.
He even offered to do it again after we pulled up to my place and realized my keys were in my purse, hanging in the mudroom at his house.
Whoops.
[Late Edit: We just got a red light camera ticket. This is a great, big comedy of errors.]

Should vs. Want to
As I finish up the last of my Christmas shopping, I’m doing the same little dance I do every year. I know I should buy him a present, but I just don’t want to. Too often we get bogged down with the things we think we should be doing and forget about the things we want to be doing.
I’m trying to lose weight, I should become a runner. Forget that. Do what you like. Run, bike,...

To Me,
having just one Christmas cookie is a bigger win than having no cookies at all. Gives me a little hope that I’m one day closer to shedding the ‘one is one too many, one more is never enough’ mentality.

Power Shower
I used to take a beer into the shower with me to sip on while getting ready to hit the bars. We called it a power shower. This morning I’m sipping on a coffee with chocolate whey protein after a 5am workout. A new kind of power shower. Also: if boozing while bathing isn’t the #1 predictor of future alcohol abuse, someone tell me what is?

In Hindsight:
I spent all morning thinking. I wondered why I ever started in the first place. Why I didn’t stop the first time I blacked out. Or when I gashed my foot open trying to hop a fence. Or when I yelled some of the cruelest words I’ve ever spoken at one of the best friends I’d ever known. Or when I fell down a flight of stairs. Or when I passed out during my college graduation. ...

Truthful Tuesday
99 times out of 100 I am confident that I will make the marathon my bitch. I will run it well, have fun, and finish with a smile on my face.
But every now and then I get so terrified I shake. I feel ashamed that I dream so big. I wish no one even knew about it so I could run away and hide without consequence.

Building Up to 35
Last week, Rach put out a call, a challenge of sorts, to cover 35 miles in honor of Robin’s 35th birthday. Depending on tomorrow’s run, I’ll probably be able to squeak out the full 35. Today at the gym, I was bouncing all over the place and decided to run with the 35 theme (you should have seen me in college, I never met a theme party I didn’t love, I’ll show you...
